Bonteri: A Bold Display Font for Web Projects

I was working on a redesign for a boutique online store that sells handmade leather goods. The brand wanted something modern yet approachable, and the hero section needed to grab attention immediately. That’s when I decided to test Bonteri—a bold and chunky lettered display font.

From the first glance, Bonteri stood out with its thick strokes and strong character. It had a clean, modern edge but still felt warm and inviting. I placed it over a full-width image of a handcrafted leather bag and immediately noticed how it commanded attention without overpowering the visual.

Visual Characteristics and Digital Appeal

Bonteri is a display font with a clear personality. Its chunky letters give it a sense of strength and confidence, making it ideal for headlines and call-to-action sections. The spacing between characters feels intentional, which helps maintain readability even at larger sizes.

I found that it worked especially well on mobile screens, where bold typography can help users quickly scan content. On smaller screens, the thickness of the letters didn’t feel overwhelming—it actually helped them stand out against both light and dark backgrounds.

Using Bonteri in Real Web Projects

I started by using Bonteri for the main headline in the hero section. It paired beautifully with a simple sans serif font for the supporting text, creating a nice contrast. This combination gave the design a professional yet creative feel, which aligned perfectly with the brand’s identity.

Next, I tested it on the product category headers. Each section title used Bonteri, and the result was visually engaging. It helped create a consistent look across the site while maintaining a clear visual hierarchy. Users could easily identify different sections of the website without getting lost in the layout.

For the call-to-action buttons, I considered using Bonteri but opted for a more readable sans serif instead. While Bonteri has a strong presence, it wasn’t suitable for small buttons where legibility is key. That’s an important consideration when choosing display fonts—they’re best used for short phrases or titles rather than long blocks of text.

Readability and User Engagement

One thing I noticed early on was how Bonteri affected scanning behavior. Because of its bold nature, users were naturally drawn to the headlines and section titles. This made the content easier to navigate, especially on landing pages and product pages where quick decision-making is crucial.

However, I also made sure to keep the body copy in a more standard sans serif font. Pairing a decorative display font like Bonteri with a clean, easy-to-read body font is a common practice in web design. It ensures that the visual interest doesn’t come at the cost of usability.

Another consideration was font pairing. I experimented with different combinations, such as pairing Bonteri with a modern sans serif like Montserrat or a classic serif like Playfair Display. Both worked well depending on the tone I wanted to convey. For a more editorial feel, the serif font added a touch of elegance, while the sans serif kept things fresh and contemporary.

Practical Tips for Using Bonteri

If you're considering Bonteri for your next project, here are a few tips based on my experience:

Bonteri isn’t just another display font—it’s a versatile tool that can elevate the look and feel of any digital project. Whether you're designing a course sales page, a coaching website, or a portfolio homepage, Bonteri brings a sense of confidence and creativity to your designs.

In the end, the right font choice can make all the difference in how users perceive your brand. With Bonteri, I found a balance between style and functionality that helped bring the boutique store’s vision to life. It's a great addition to any designer's toolkit, especially when aiming for a polished and professional online brand experience.
